How to Make a Great Gift Basket

What Is Going In It?
The first order of business is choosing what you would like to put in the basket. Seems simple, but oftentimes it is not. More times than not it is great to go with a theme for the basket, like French or baseball. This makes for a fun way to put together a gift basket, as well as for a neat reaction by the recipient.
Find A Clean Area
Once you have all the items, place them on a table with the prospective basket. It is easier to work if you set up a clean work area, preferably on a table. Also, make sure you have the necessary supplies: scissors, ribbons, tissue paper, tape, glue, cellophane, etc.
Use Tissue Paper
The next thing you need to do is add a layer of tissue paper to the bottom of the basket. This helps to prop up the items. For larger baskets, sometimes it is best to use newspaper at the bottom or even a small cardboard box. This can be easily managed by placing the tissue paper over it, so as to not have anyone see anything unseemly like that.
Place The Items In
Once that is completed, start placing the items in the basket. Best to go with the sturdiest item in the center and build around it. Larger items behind it and smaller ones in the front. For gaps, softer items are best, or use hand towels or tissue paper. Once everything is in, make sure the labels are facing forward and tape anything down that may be an issue. An organized and neat basket simply looks better, so all of these steps will ensure a great looking gift basket.
Wrap Basket with Cellophane
Wrapping the cellophane is the final step of the process. Sometimes it is easiest with two people, but can be managed by one. The simplest way to do this step is to have a sheet of cellophane laid on a table and place the basket on top of it. Make sure there is enough cellophane, because you will need to grab the four edges and bring them together at the top of the basket, where they can be twisted and tied together.
